Here are 5 new rhythm exercises to keep you sharp. I’ve tried to utilize ties over bars in these to give you further practice for the Agnus Dei. Don’t cheat now! Work them out with clapping and counting first before you listen to the audio file.
Always look at the time signature first!
As always, have fun and leave comments if you need help or if they are too easy. 😉 Remember, if you are confused about something, someone else likely is, as well. You can all help each other providing questions and comments.

Nodding, tapping, clapping, laughing…..crying. Don’t seem to be getting the hang of these very easily!! The second one is helped by the first and the third by the second but 6/8 has thrown me completely…..
Try dividing it into 2– emphasis on 1 & 4. Makes it a bit easier. Two dotted quarter notes in a bar, right? 1 . . 4 . . 1 . . 4 . . even then it swings because in your head is the boom 2, 3 boom 5, 6. We can go through it on Thursday if you want.

Ah …..can now sway ONE, 2, 3, FOUR , 5, 6 but clapping and looking at notes still eludes me. I appear to have chorea minor (sounds promisingly musical I hear you think but also known as St vitus dance – that disease characterised by rapid uncoordinated jerking movements.) I fear I will never play the triangle again……looking forward to trying harder on Thursday.
Stop clapping, then. Snap your fingers or blink your eyelids. Fabulous bass player Dick Kniss (used to play for John Denver!) used to blink his eyelids to the beat.
Secondly, probably better to try harder now and drink more vino on thursday! 🙂
Sound comes up on all the others. It may be finding the file on your on your computer but maybe you didn’t upload the link. :-)).
I’m having a lot of fun playing with the files in order to get some well needed practice!!
Nope, the file is definitely there. All checked and rechecked. Glad you’re having fun with the other ones, at least.

The first exercise gives the music score but no sound. Is this intentional?
Hi James,
The sound is working for me. I suspect it’s your broadband or computer taking a little time to catch up.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Good! We’ll try to do more like this, then.
Tough, but doable – extremely useful too!! More exercises like this please and not just in rythmn…
